Soil Stewards is an ASUI recognized student
organization whose members created and continue to run an organic farm
within the UI Plant Science Research Farm.
Soil
Stewards goals are to promote the preservation of natural resources and
sustainability through community outreach, research, and experiential
learning.
Right now the
students farm about 1/4 of an acre at the Parker Research Farm, about a
mile east of town on the Troy Highway. They grow transitional organic
veggies alongside research projects in mustard and canola, direct seeded
wheat, urban forestry and much more!
Marketing includes a CSA, retail and wholesale sales.
The production
season runs from early April until November, with numerous opportunities
for involvement.
