CS Management Team

Dr. Marcia Ostrom was hired by Washington State University in 2000 to establish a Small Farms Program as part of the Safe Food Initiative funded by the state legislature. In addition to directing the Small Farms Program, she is an assistant professor in the Department of Community and Rural Sociology and a member of the leadership team for the Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources (CSANR).

Marcy teaches courses at Puyallup for farmers and community members and conducts workshops, forums, and presentations around the state on topics related to sustainable food and farming systems.

Before this appointment, Marcy worked for the University of Wisconsin as the Outreach Coordinator for the statewide Program on Agricultural Technology Studies. At the University of Wisconsin, Marcy conducted research and outreach to assess and publicize the impacts of new agricultural technologies and policies on the family farm sector in Wisconsin. Marcy holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from the University of Wisconsin, a M.S. from the Cornell College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and a B.S. from Harvard University.
